How to stay safe during typhoons or cyclones?



Do you live in a coastal area? If you, there are a lot of chances of natural disasters like typhoon, tsunami, hurricanes, cyclone etc. These disasters may cause a great loss of lives and wealth as well. So, everyone living near coastal area should know some steps to reduce the harm as much as possible.                                                                                                                  

Here are some early preparation for typhoons or hurricane:
  • Always keep in touch with TV & radio and listen regularly weather updates.
  • Contact with the related authority and make sure if your house safe or not. Make sure your house has been built abiding by the cyclone or disaster standard. If your place seems to be unsafe don’t be late transferring your place.
  • Verify if the roofs and walls of your house are safe or not. Take steps to repair them if you get enough time before the disaster.
  • If there is any tree beside your house, see if they might cause harm. Keep away your house from tree bunches.
  • Place shutter in front of the glass portion of your house.
  • Remove all loose or such things that may be flow away during heavy air or water flow. These will help you to be safe.
  • If there is declared any warning of any high tidal, instantly search for high land nearby and also find the way to reach there at shortest time during emergency.
  • Keep an emergency kit with you, containing-
A portable battery radio, Torch, Battery, Bottle of water, Dry food, Match box or gas lighter, Stove, Important kitchen things,  First aid kit, Sleeping bag, kerosene etc.   

  • Put on the important telephone numbers on a big paper and hang them in such a place that can be seen easily.
  • Keep away from sites which are under construction. They are very dangerous.
  • Be slow while driving
  • Don’t let your children outside home.
  • Keep your important documents and some money in a waterproof bag and put it in your emergency kit box.
  • Keep chemical beyond reach of water
  • Switch off the main electric line.   
 Last of all, don't lose patience. Don't risk your life in order to save money or other thing. Life is more valuable than money. If you can make sure that you are safe try to take some responsibilities for your relatives or neighbors. Help them to be prepared.
